Flexible conduit solutions for the Oil & Gas industry

The global Oil & Gas industry operates in some of the harshest and most hazardous environments on the planet. Whether it’s offshore drilling platforms at sea, desert pipelines, or refinery installations, one constant remains: Always safety first. The need for absolute reliability.

Electrical systems, sensors, controls and mechanical connections must function flawlessly under exposure to salty environments, UV, extreme vibration, chemical attack, pressure fluctuations and potential explosive atmospheres.

As your trusted partner, Anamet Europe supplies specialist Liquid-tight Flexible Metal Conduits (LFMC) to protect electrical cables. Our range includes Anaconda Sealtite Liquid-tight Flexible Metal Conduits (LFMC) systems and IECEx/ATEX, CCC and UKCA certified conduit fittings such as type, RNA/RAA, BNA/BAA, BXA/BXC.

All are available in nickel plated brass and stainless steel AISI-316 and depending on the type with a rubber clamping barrier or a 2-compound epoxy resin barrier. Because Anaconda IECEx/ATEX certified conduit fittings are Exd approved it is allowed to install them in places which are defined according to the directives as zone 1, 2 for gas and 21, 22 for dust.

All engineered to withstand the harsh demands of the Oil & Gas industry, whether onshore, offshore or subsea.

Comparison with standard industrial cable protection

Most cables for these heavy industries are not designed for the extreme potential corrosive conditions common in Oil & Gas environments, such as exposure to saltwater, salty air or hydrogen sulphide.

  • Conduit fittings with a rubber clamping barrier: Type RNA/RAA for single cables (in stainless steel AISI-316, –40 °C to +100 °C continuous, EPDM clamping rubber) are IECEx-ATEX, CCC and UKCA certified for flameproof enclosures (Exd), preventing gas or dust migration
  • Conduit fittings with a 2-compound epoxy resin barrier: Type BXA for loose wires (in stainless steel AISI-316, –60 °C to +130 °C continuous) are IECEx-ATEX, CCC and UKCA certified for flameproof enclosures (Exd).
  • Conduit fittings with a rubber clamping barrier and a 2-compound epoxy resin barrier: Type BNA/BAA for increased safety.
  • Extended temperature range: Type RNA/RAA with a silicone clamping rubber extends the temperature range from –65 °C to +220 °C and type BNA/BAA from –60 °C to +150 °C

Let’s take a sidestep and briefly explain Ingress Protection (IP)

The IP protection classes define the protection against the ingress of solid foreign bodies and liquids. The first digit (0-6) stands for the degree of protection against solid foreign bodies (e.g. 6 = dust-tight), the second digit (0-9) stands for the degree of protection against liquids (e.g. 8 = device can be operated permanently under water until a certain depth, 9 = can withstand high-pressure, high-temperature water jets from various angles. This is determined in tests using talcum powder and water.

  • IP 66: completely dust-tight, strong water jets.
  • IP 67: completely dust-tight, water-tight, measured at a depth of 1 meter for at least 30 minutes.
  • IP 68: completely dust-tight, water-tight, measured at a depth of generally 3 meters for a by the manufacturer agreed amount of time, equipment is suitable for continuously immersion in water under conditions which the manufacturer shall specify.

Most Anamet Europe IECEx/ATEX certified fittings carry ratings of IP66 / IP67 and IP68 at the switchbox, making them ideal for every kind of industries where a high rate of ingress protection is needed.

Comparison with rigid metal piping

  • Rigid metal piping systems: offer strength, but they limit layout flexibility, are harder to install and are prone to fatigue in vibrating environments.
  • Metal strength with flexibility: Anaconda Sealtite combines durability with flexible routing, perfect for retrofits or tight spaces without the use of an extra part such as angled adapter.
  • Vibration and movement: Due to its flexibility a Liquid-tight Flexible Conduit (LFMC) system, absorbs vibration and (partial) movement by nature, where a expansion joint is necessary with rigid metal piping.
  • Customised solutions: Available pre-assembled for faster installation and consistent quality.

Real-world Oil & Gas applications and engineering context

In Oil & Gas environments, from offshore platforms to onshore refineries, electrical and control systems must perform uninterrupted despite extreme conditions. Saltwater corrosion, (heavy) vibration and gas exposure are daily realities. As such, engineers do constant research to increase safety in potential explosive environments. Our IECEx/ATEX certified conduit fittings are compliant with IEC 60079, 2014/34/EU, CEC section 18, NEC 505-506 and therefore essential for protecting cables connected to critical instrumentation, such as PLCs, sensors, data- and communication lines.

Example applications include:

  • FPSOs (Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessels): where flexible metal conduits connect moving turret modules with central control units.
  • Gas compressor stations: where high-EMI environments demand EMC-shielding to maintain control signal integrity.
  • LNG processing plants: where explosion-proof cable entry solutions are critical in cryogenic and explosion proof environments.

When to choose Anamet Europe over alternatives
