GOST is the Russian word for ‘norm’, and R stands for Russia. For most products a certification is necessary if you wish to sell them in Russia, in order to acknowledge safety and quality of the products. GOST R can be voluntary or mandatory, depending on the type of product (Custom Product Code). If for specific types of products Technical Regulations (TRCU) have been designated the GOST R certificate needs to be replaced by an EAC certification, which is valid for the complete Custom Union (Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan).
