RoHS

RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) aims to reduce and prevent dangerous chemicals in electrical and electronic appliances. The foundation for this can be found in the guideline 2002/95EG, from 2002. This guideline was replaced in 2011 by the guideline 2011/65/EU, also known as RoHS II. This was updated in 2015 by means of the 2015/863, known as RoHS-3.

In the directive a number of chemicals is listed for which restrictions apply. These chemicals are only allowed in electrical and electronical appliances when the concentration (weight percentage) stays below the listed maximum of homogenous material

Lead (0,1%)
Mercury (0,1%)
Cadmium (0,01%)
Hexavalent chromium (0,1%)
Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB’s)(0,1%)
Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE’s) (0,1%)
Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (0,1%)
Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) (0,1%)
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) (0,1%)
Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) (0,1%)
